Corrections in any of the material which follows, however tiny, would be most welcome. And additions, of course! Test.J. BLUMER & COMPANY LIMITED (and related names)
We are not aware of any booklets, published by 'Blumer', though in the fullness of time, some such publications may very well emerge. But we do have two fine group images, both taken at the Blumer Shipbuilding Yard at North Dock, Sunderland, in the early 1900's. Both provided by Malcolm Fraser, whom we sincerely thank.
The first image shows the drillers, who, I am advised would drill the holes for rivets where machine punching out those holes was just not possible.
The next image shows the 'Blumer' platers. With a plate shearing machine behind (complete with an apprentice perhaps perched atop it), and a ship under construction in the background. That is the foreman at left? Image also provided by Malcolm Fraser, whom we thank.
A pleasant row of faces. It would have been great to buy them each a beer at a Sunderland tavern, But they are all long gone & that is no longer possible.
