THE LAST MAN. (1897?)

The image below comes to us, again, thanks to Randall Trass of Oregon. He tells me that he found it, with the artist mis-identified incidentally, in an 1897 hardcover entitled 'The Savage Club Papers' (the graphic from the cover is at left). The Savage Club, Randall tells me, was started in the mid 1800s, by big game hunters, war correspondents, adventurers, heroes & military men to get together regularly & share stories. They put out two volumes of adventure stories in the 1860s & also this 1897 book, which includes one story by G. A. Henty who had, in his career, been a war correspondent. Anyway, the book contained the drawing on this page by an artist identified as being 'Thomas M. Henry' but it is clearly a Hemy work.

As Randall says, 'Not one of his better drawings', but a fine addition to the site, none the less. Thanks again, Randall.
