The webmaster is NOT an art expert and does not claim to be such. But in assembling this site in recent years, he has seen images said to be attributed to Thomas Hemy, that the webmaster believes are incorrectly attributed. How and why they have been wrongly attributed I do not know. But I truly believe they are wrongly attributed. They just do not seem to 'match' his other work in any way. To a non art expert, at least.
If you believe that I am incorrect, do please be in touch. And prove that I am wrong!BENNOCH OF BLACKHEATH
Most art print houses (I will not list them all) have this print for sale as a 'restrike etching' attributed to Thomas M. Hemy. There was one site however that has it for sale, & they used to, but not now, attribute the work to Thomas McHenry, whom they indicated was a British 19th century artist (I could not track an artist of that name, however). That site is 'Great Modern Pictures' of New York, whose site page with the image is here. The work may in fact date from about 1860. There are somewhat similar works available attributed to Lemuel Francis Abbott if you were to search for them.
If YOU could add any data re the subject matter of this page, or indeed add anything re the artist generally, I invite you to be in touch. Your contribution would be much appreciated.
