A modest image of this work used to appear on the 'Gabrius' website, which site vanished from the WWW many years ago now. I did not include the image in these pages at that time because I had hoped that a better image might soon be located, since the 'Gabrius' image i) was only in black & white & ii) the image detail seemed perhaps to leave something to be desired. Here, however, is that image. The first of the two images that follow.
I include it on site now, in Aug. 2008, because a kind site visitor has alerted me to a sale conducted at Sotheby's on May 31, 1995, a sale entitled 'Colonnade', a sale of Continental & British Paintings & Watercolors, specifically lot 212 in that sale. The work was, in that sale, identified as 'Tending the Flock', a signed oil on canvas of 17.5 x 23.4 in. (or 44.5 x 59.5 cm.) in size. I am unable to advise you if the work sold that day in 1995, or where the sale was conducted. The Sotheby's image is WWW available here. The image follows, the second of the two.
Can you tell us anything about the work?
More when I get more! Maybe YOU could provide new data or could provide a clue as to where new data about the above works (or indeed any other Schenck work) might be found. I would truly welcome your input.
