LE TROUPEAU DE MOUTONS SURPRIS PAR LA TEMPÊTE DE NEIGE
I have surely said, on a number of these pages, that it would be good to be able to provide the visitor with more data than I can about a particular work. Such is true re the image which follows, an image about a Schenck work about which I know nothing other than, (perhaps), the title of the work.
Hopefully more data will emerge in the future. Is it possible that YOU have data that would help? As to when it was painted perhaps, maybe when it was sold & where. And for how much. Any information would be gratefully received. And the webmaster would welcome your help. You can reach me here.
It would seem however, per 'Artnet' when I visited in Feb. 2008, that the work is an oil on canvas, 35.4 x 57.9 in. or 90 x 147 cm. in size, signed, & sold at a 'Tajan' sale on Apr. 30, 1999. The sale price was not, of course indicated - one must subscribe to access that data.
Thanks to a kind site visitor, who owns a copy of the above referenced 'Tajan' sale catalogue, I can advise that the sale was indeed by 'Etude Tajan' at the Hôtel Druot, in Paris, France, on April 30, 1999. This item was sale item #111. Its estimated sale value was stated to be 30 000/40 000. French Francs. So about U.S. $6,000/$8,000. A larger image will soon grace this page, indeed that image is now below. Is it not beautiful!
I include the image that follows on this particular page, since I am advised that it also was offered for sale at the 'Tajan' sale held at 'Etude Tajan' at the Hôtel Druot, in Paris, France, on April 30, 1999. This item was sale item #112. An oil on canvas, 65 x 81 cm. in size, signed at lower left. Its estimated sale value was stated to be 20 000/25 000. French Francs. So about U.S. $4,000/$5,000. The image is shown next in a larger size than it appeared in the 'Tajan' catalogue, I understand.
I have not read if the work in fact sold, & if it did sell, at what price it sold.
More when I get more! Maybe YOU could provide new data or could provide a clue as to where new data about the above works (or indeed any other Schenck work) might be found. I would truly welcome your input.
