Image #13 - A fine 1966 image, the copyrighted work of Gianfranco Corsi. Of 'Donacilla' under construction. 'Donacilla' was a 40,170 ton tanker built for Shell Tankers U.K. Ltd. by Joseph L. Thompson & Sons Ltd. at North Sands. We thank Francesco Corsi, Gianfranco's son, for his kind permission to include the image on site. A much larger version of the image can be seen here. In the foreground is 'Wear Dockyard', owned by S. P. Austin Ltd. until 1954 when it became owned by Austin & Pickersgill Ltd. Alas, closed down & silent by the time of this photograph.
